Duncan Tartan Clan History

Duncans of today can lay claim to an illustrious descent from the ancient kings of Scotland. Also known as Clan Donnachaidh and linked today to what became Clan Robertson, it was through House of Atholl that they ruled Scotland during the eleventh and twelfth centuries, most famously through King Duncan who was murdered by Macbeth in 1040.

The personal name Duncan can be found on Scotlands oldest records in its Gaelic form Donnchadh. Among these records is a reference to the death in 717 of Dunchad
