MacLean Of Duart Tartan Clan History

The clan traces a descent from Gillian of the Battle Axe, a warrior and descendant of the ancient kings of Dalriada. Land was held in Argyll and on the island of Tiree, Islay and Jura- but Duart, on the island of Mull, was the clan’s main base. It supported the the Jacobite cause in both the 1715 and 1745 Risings.
